The MaraWay is a social enterprise in Cairns rolling up its sleeves to tackle the tough issues in our community.
But we’re doing it a little bit differently.
How do we fund this new approach?
We are driven by a social mission and are financially sustainable. We use innovative ways to generate revenue through the commercial market, our profits help fund our social objectives. Yes, we are also a not-for-profit organisation - but we like to say a profit-for-purpose.
What does The MaraWay mean?
Mara means ‘hands’ in the Djabugay language.
You see, we lend a pragmatic hand (some might call it tough love) to help people help themselves.
We also believe it’s time to put the future of our community into local hands and get off the merry-go-round of good intentions and wasted resources.
It’s time for Cairns to make a difference.
An inspiration to us all
For Louise, life was all consumed with stuff we don’t need to spell out. It was a tough upbringing that made it unbelievably difficult for a young woman to survive, let along dream big. But in 2017 that all changed.
