Maria Pedersen has come a long way from her not-so-positive experiences as a young school girl to now being the Chair of The MaraWay. She is passionate about her culture, her family and the community. She believes if you want something in life, from a car to an education, you have work for it. Being a CDEP participant in her early years, Maria used the program as a stepping stone to a better education, job and life.
Maria understands challenges for Indigenous youth and has been passionately supporting and mentoring the people of her local community all her life. She’s fostered over 65 children teaching them right from wrong and what’s not acceptable – in any language.
As the Chair, Maria is determined to assist people embrace the life-changing opportunities The MaraWay offers. “We’ve got a great team and strong leadership in our CEO. The board members are all strong-minded people who bring diversity and experience to the table, and we’re meeting the needs of our community.”
